Windsurfing: Hove Wind Direction: WNW Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Last summ-suit sesh? Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny spells Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Wind and a midday low tide coincided nicely with my Tuesday morning off
work to produce a very enjoyable and "different" 2 hour session at Hove.
Different because the wind was very slightly cross-off, which resulted in a
much smoother water state, no cross-on-lump-chop-crap. And combined with
small-medium waves which incredibly seemed to be arriving in sets like a
proper groundswell, some very good (by usual south coast standards...) dtl
waveriding was on offer. Very unusual conditions compared to what is
normally expected around this part of the world.
Nicely powered by the 5.2 on my bigger board, the session could have been
better but my amateur wavesailing technique often let me down and on
several occasions I seemed to mis-time my runs in (despite always looking
for the sets) and not get myself in place correctly for the bigger waves.
However I did get in a few good dtl rides and highlight of the session was
an incredible 3 BOTTOM TURNS ;-) on a rogue head high monster (no
really...it was that big...honest!). I had to pack up at 1pm to get to work
but would have loved to stay out for longer as whilst I was rigging up
conditions still looked very inviting with the small clean waves still
rolling in and being "ripped to shreds" (er...) by about 5 sailors
including Gmac, Basher and Steve Thorp.
A good end to a great month. :)
